Epidemiological Studies

Exploring patterns in worldwide health data

Epidemiological Studies at INFANT look at the trends and determinants of maternal, fetal and neonatal complications. This includes preterm birth, babies that are small for gestational age, pre-eclampsia, gestational diabetes, Caesarean section and neonatal morbidity.

The other key element of our Epidemiology programme is the monitoring of fetal and early life determinants of disease. This covers childhood, adolescence and adulthood conditions such as asthma, allergies, Type 1 diabetes, autism, ADHD, schizophrenia and depression.

Dr Ali Khashan is the lead investigator for the Epidemiology Research Programme in the INFANT Centre.  INFANT has a number of research projects which incorporate epidemiological studies, building our knowledge of pregnancy and pregnancy endpoints, causes and effects.
