BEFORE Birth

The BEFORE Birth study aims to provide a screening test for pre-term delivery, a leading cause of perinatal mortality.

What is BEFORE Birth?

The objective of the BEFORE Birth project is to identify a clinically valuable early pregnancy screening test for pre-term birth. Pre-term birth is associated with high rates of mortality, morbidity, haemorrhage, respiratory distress syndrome and neurological deficits.

Guided by the clinical and biochemical risk factors which pre-term birth creates, INFANT researchers aim to show how maternal blood contains biomarkers which could predict this condition. A successful test for these markers will have a major health and economic impact.
