We are thrilled to share that Prof Geraldine Boylan, Director of INFANT & UCC Futures Children, has been awarded the UCC Medical School Medal 2024 — a prestigious honour established in 2001 to recognise alumni of the UCC School of Medicine who have made notable and exceptional contributions to Medicine and Society.

Prof Boylan’s success and leadership at the interface of neuroscience, bioengineering, physiology and neonatology is not only deeply respected by her peers but also serves a powerful inspiration to the next generation of clinical scientists and doctors.

Most importantly, her work continues to make a real and lasting impact – improving care and outcomes for many children and their families. CergenX, an INFANT Centre spin out co-founded by Prof Boylan, is translating research into clinical practice with the Wave device—an AI-powered innovation in neonatal neuroprotective care that is revolutionising the assessment of newborn brain function.

Prof Paula O’Leary, Dean of the School of Medicine at UCC, praised Prof Boylan on receiving the award, “The Medical School Medal honours distinguished graduates of UCC School of Medicine. We are hugely proud of Prof Boylan’s achievements and her amazing journey. Prof Boylan’s leadership and innovation continue to inspire, with real world impact which not only exemplifies the values of the University and UCC Futures Children, but also places UCC at the forefront of global interdisciplinary research that makes a meaningful difference in the lives of children.

Huge congratulations to Prof Boylan on this well-deserved recognition
